September 3rd, 2011

What stands out about the CX360V is it’s lack of weaknesses, this camcorder is strong in almost all areas. The Sony HDR-CX360V records gorgeous HD video. A highlight is the ability to shoot at 1920 x 1080 full HD, 60p and 24p (the p stands for progressive method, which records twice the image data of the more commonly used interlace method). Another outstanding feature of this camcorder is image stabilization, the best in it’s price range. Low light performance is also excellent as is the crystal clear sound quality.

The HDR-CX360V has strong still photo capability at 7 megapixels. Wide angle and zoom are both effective performers. “Intelligent Auto” is Sony’s automated settings function and this system operates very effectively, making the camcorder very easy to use straight out of the box.

Included among the very few drawbacks, the 3 inch wide LCD touchscreen normally functions well but occasionally gets a bit finicky. Manual controls are adequate but could be better.

Storage

Storage is handled by 32GB of internal flash memory which provides up to 13 hours of HD filming. In addition there are slots for Sony’s memory stick and for SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards.

Back-illuminated "Exmor R" CMOS Sensor

Sony’s back-illuminated "Exmor R" CMOS sensor is primarily responsible for the camcorders excellent low light performance. This sensor produces outstanding image clarity and substantially reduced grain.

Wide Angle G lens

Sony’s G Lens supplies brilliant, accurate colors and highly detailed images. The focal length is 27.4mm in Photo Mode and 29.8mm in Video Mode. Wide angle enables you to fit the whole family into the shot, also great for scenery shots.

Zoom Functions

Optical Zoom goes to 12x and Extended Zoom pushes that to 17X, the digital zoom works better than most digital zooms and goes to 160x.

Clear Photo LCD Plus display  (230K)

The 3.0” Clear Photo LCD Plus  display supplies excellent clarity due to it’s 230K pixels resolution. The display can rotate to 270 degrees for varying viewing angles and supplies sharp and detailed images for monitoring or playback.

Optical SteadyShot Image Stabilization

Optical SteadyShot image stabilization adjusts for higher levels of camcorder shake to produce extremely smooth video even when using the telephoto lens. Innovative 3-Way Shake-Canceling enhances a very effective system.

Tracking Focus

Tracking Focus functions as an extension of Face Detection. You can choose an object by touching the LCD screen and the focus will track the object through the shot. Using this feature can result in significantly higher quality video.

Sound Quality

One of the key features of the HDR-CX360V is the excellent sound quality. This camcorder has a high quality built-in microphone that records in 5.1ch Surround Sound. The wind noise reduction function makes voices stand out from the background. There are dedicated mic and headphone inputs for increased recording options and monitoring audio with headphones.
